Hypoparathyroidism
Hypoparathyreoidismus · Hypoparatyreóza
What it is

Where it strikes
Medical treatment
- Calcium, PTH, phosphate, magnesium, vitamin D
- intravenous calcium for tetany
- oral calcium and active vitamin D (calcitriol, alfacalcidol) — risk of kidney stones and kidney damage
- correct low magnesium
- palopegteriparatide — EMA 2023, FDA 2024; hormone replacement that freed most from calcium and vitamin D pills (PaTHway)
- thiazide to lower urine calcium
Natural & lifestyle
- Calcium-rich diet
- fewer phosphate-rich foods (cola, processed food)
- drink enough
Emerging & experimental
- Encaleret for the inherited CASR form
- eneboparatide
- parathyroid transplantation
Alternative, off-label & anecdotal
Approaches used outside the guidelines, with what their supporters report and what testing has found so far.
