What it is
Inflammation of the lining of the abdomen — usually from a burst appendix, ulcer or bowel — a surgical emergency.
Symptoms & signs
- Severe abdominal pain, worse on moving
- rigid, board-like belly
- fever and a fast pulse
- vomiting
- no bowel sounds or wind
