Cell membrane
Membrana cellularis · Buněčná membrána
Blood & marrow
Looks like
A thin double layer of fat molecules with proteins floating in it, surrounding every cell; too thin to see with a light microscope.
What it does
Keeps the cell's contents in and controls what enters and leaves; it carries receptors for hormones and drugs.
Keeping it well
Toxins, infections and a lack of oxygen break it, and the cell dies. Cystic fibrosis is a faulty channel in it.
