Where it strikes
Medical treatment
- CT, blood and sputum tests
- voriconazole or isavuconazole
- itraconazole and steroids for the allergic form
- surgery for fungus balls
- less immunosuppression where possible
Natural & lifestyle
- Avoid compost and building dust when immunosuppressed
- HEPA-filtered air in hospital
Emerging & experimental
- Olorofim and fosmanogepix
- inhaled antifungals
Alternative, off-label & anecdotal
Approaches used outside the guidelines, with what their supporters report and what testing has found so far.
- A mould-free home — less exposure helps the allergic form early / small studies
- Oregano oil — antifungal in the lab; untested here anecdotal / traditional
- Vitamin D — low levels linked to the allergic form early / small studies
