What it is
The immune system attacks liver cells; untreated it scars the liver into cirrhosis.
Symptoms & signs

- Prednisolone or budesonide plus azathioprine
- mycophenolate when azathioprine fails or is not tolerated
- maintenance for years, often for life
- transplant for liver failure
