Liver
Hepar · Játra
Digestive system
Looks like
The largest internal organ: a 1.5 kg dark-red wedge under the right ribs.
What it does
Cleans the blood, makes bile and clotting proteins, and stores fuel.
Keeping it well
Alcohol dose is what matters; the liver repairs itself until scarring sets in. Hepatitis B vaccination prevents an infection that causes liver cancer. Paracetamol is safe at label dose; an overdose can destroy the liver.
