Right hemiliver
Pars hepatis dextra · Pravá polovina jater
Digestive system
Looks like
Each functional half of the liver, right or left, divided by a line from the gallbladder to the inferior vena cava, not by the visible ligament.
What it does
Each half has its own branches of portal vein, hepatic artery and bile duct, so can work — or be removed — on its own.
Keeping it well
The basis of liver surgery: a healthy liver regrows after removal of a half. Also used in living-donor transplantation.
