What it is

Viral or immune inflammation of the heart muscle; also after mRNA COVID vaccines, mostly in young men within days of the second dose and usually mild.

Medical treatment

  • Rest and no exercise 3–6 months
  • heart-failure medication
  • steroids for giant-cell or immune types

  • Selenium where soils are poor — prevents Keshan disease (a viral myocarditis) in China mixed evidence
  • Vitamin D and zinc for recovery — widely used; untested for this anecdotal / traditional
  • Intravenous immunoglobulin — small trials in children; adults unclear early / small studies
