A chestnut-sized gland under the bladder, wrapped round the start of the urine channel.
What it does
Adds most of the fluid in semen.
Keeping it well
A weak stream or getting up at night is usually harmless growth. PSA screening avoids about 1 prostate-cancer death per 1 000 men over 13 years, but many more men are diagnosed with cancers that would never have harmed them, and treatment can leave incontinence or erection problems. Blood in urine is a different matter and needs a look.
