Tympanic membrane
Membrana tympanica · Bubínek
Sense organs
Looks like
A thin, pearly-grey, cone-shaped membrane about 1 cm across at the end of the ear canal.
What it does
Vibrates with sound and passes it to the middle-ear bones.
Keeping it well
Perforations from infection or injury usually heal within weeks; keep water out meanwhile. A discharge lasting over two weeks needs review.
