A large vein on each side at the back of the pelvis, formed by the external and internal iliac veins.
What it does
The two join at the fifth lumbar vertebra to form the inferior vena cava.
Keeping it well
The right iliac artery can squeeze the left vein (May-Thurner), making left-leg clots more likely.
