A vein running along the lower edge of the twelfth rib, the last in the row of intercostal veins.

Drains the lower chest and upper abdominal wall into the azygos or hemiazygos vein.

Rarely a problem on its own; it forms part of the backup routes if the inferior vena cava is blocked.
