Thyrohyoid membrane
Membrana thyrohyoidea · Štítnojazylková membrána
Fascia & connective tissue
Looks like
A broad, flexible sheet of tissue joining the upper edge of the thyroid cartilage to the hyoid bone above it.
What it does
Suspends the voice box from the hyoid bone and lets it move up during swallowing; a nerve and artery to the voice box pass through it.
Keeping it well
Rarely a problem itself; a lump in the neck that moves on swallowing and persists for weeks needs a doctor.
