Lesser omentum

Omentum minus · Malá předstěra

Fascia & connective tissue

Looks like

A double sheet of peritoneum running from the underside of the liver to the inner curve of the stomach and the first part of the duodenum.

What it does

Its thick free edge (the hepatoduodenal ligament) carries the portal vein, hepatic artery and common bile duct; it forms the front wall of the space behind the stomach (the lesser sac).

Keeping it well

A surgeon squeezes this free edge between finger and thumb to stop bleeding from the liver (the Pringle manoeuvre). Fluid collections from pancreatitis often gather behind it.
