What it does
Holds the bowel loosely in place and carries its arteries, veins, lymph vessels and nerves.
Keeping it well
A clot or blockage in its arteries starves the bowel: sudden severe belly pain out of proportion to what a doctor can feel, especially with atrial fibrillation, is an emergency.
