Leptin & adiponectin
Adipokina · Leptin a adiponektin
Endocrine glands
Looks like
Hormones released by fat cells into the blood, too small to see; leptin rises with fat mass, adiponectin falls.
What it does
Leptin tells the brain how much energy is stored; adiponectin makes the body more sensitive to insulin.
Keeping it well
In obesity the brain stops responding to leptin and adiponectin falls, feeding insulin resistance. Losing weight partly restores both.
