Skeleton
Looks like
The base bone of the big toe, between the ball of the foot and the toe joint.
What it does
Forms the toe's main joint with the first metatarsal and transmits push-off force.
Keeping it well
Turf toe (sprain of the joint at its base) affects athletes; stiffness and pain here with a bony lump may be hallux rigidus.
