Skeleton
Looks like
The bony chest: 12 thoracic vertebrae, 12 pairs of ribs with their cartilages, and the breastbone.
What it does
Forms a protective, flexible cage around the heart and lungs that works as a bellows for breathing.
Keeping it well
Shape changes such as a sunken or keeled breastbone are usually cosmetic but can be treated if they affect breathing.
