The top chest vertebra (T1), just below the prominent neck vertebra, carrying the head of the first rib.
What it does
Links the neck to the chest spine; the T1 nerve supplies the small muscles of the hand.
Keeping it well
A tumour at the lung apex can press on the T1 nerve, causing hand weakness and a drooping eyelid (Pancoast tumour).
