Anatom3DInnermost intercostal muscle
Musculi intercostales intimi · Nejvnitřnější mezižeberní svaly
Muscles
Looks like
The deepest thin layer of muscle between the ribs, separated from the middle layer by the rib nerve and vessels.
What it does
Works with the internal intercostals to steady and lower the ribs during forceful breathing out.
Keeping it well
The rib nerve runs just above it; a band of burning pain along one rib before a rash suggests shingles.
