Cephalic & basilic veins
Vena cephalica et vena basilica · Hlavová a královská žíla
Veins
Looks like
The two visible veins under the skin of the arm — the cephalic on the thumb side, the basilic on the little-finger side, linked at the elbow.
What it does
Drain blood from the hand and forearm back towards the heart; the usual place for blood tests and drips.
Keeping it well
A red, tender, hard cord after a drip is a surface clot, usually settling with warmth. A whole arm that swells needs checking for a deep clot.
