Cauda equina
Cauda equina · Koňský ohon
Nervous system
Looks like
A sheaf of nerve roots hanging below the end of the cord at about the first lumbar vertebra, like a horse's tail.
What it does
Carries nerves to the legs, bladder, bowel and genitals.
Keeping it well
Numbness in the saddle area, new trouble passing or holding urine, or weakness in both legs with back pain is an emergency — same day.
