Central canal
Canalis centralis · Centrální kanálek míchy
Nervous system
Looks like
A pinpoint channel down the very centre of the spinal cord, filled with cerebrospinal fluid.
What it does
Continues the fluid spaces of the brain down the cord; a leftover of the tube the nervous system grows from.
Keeping it well
It can widen into a fluid-filled cavity (syrinx), which slowly takes away pain and temperature sense in the arms; an MRI shows it.
