I — Olfactory nerve
Nervus olfactorius (I) · I — čichový nerv
Nervous system
Looks like
Bundles of very fine nerve fibres passing from the roof of the nose through the ethmoid sieve plate to the olfactory bulbs.
What it does
Carries the sense of smell, which gives much of flavour.
Keeping it well
Lost after viral infections and head injury; smell training helps some recover. Gradual smell loss can be an early sign of Parkinson's disease.
