The thinnest cranial nerve, leaving the back of the midbrain and running forward to a single eye muscle.

What it does

Moves the eye down and inwards, as when reading or walking downstairs.

Keeping it well

Easily injured by head trauma; vertical double vision worse looking down, with a head tilt, needs assessment.
