What it does
Carries taste and touch from the back of the tongue and throat, triggers the gag reflex and senses blood pressure at the carotid.
Keeping it well
Rarely affected alone; sharp electric-shock pain in the throat on swallowing is glossopharyngeal neuralgia and responds to medicine.
