Inguinal canal
Canalis inguinalis · Tříselný kanál
Fascia & connective tissue
Looks like
A slanting tunnel about 4 cm long through the lower belly wall, just above the fold of the groin on each side.
What it does
Carries the spermatic cord in males and the round ligament of the uterus in females out of the abdomen.
Keeping it well
Its weak point lets bowel push through as an inguinal hernia, far commoner in males; a groin lump that becomes painful, tender and will not go back needs emergency care.
