Chorda tympani · Bubínková struna
Nervous system
Looks like
A thin branch of the facial nerve that crosses the middle ear behind the eardrum, then joins the lingual nerve.
What it does
Carries taste from the front two thirds of the tongue and drives saliva from the glands under the tongue and jaw.
Keeping it well
Can be stretched in ear surgery, giving a metallic or altered taste that often recovers.
