A vein inside the parotid gland, just behind the jaw bone, formed by the superficial temporal and maxillary veins.
What it does
Drains the side of the scalp and the deep face, then splits into a front and a back branch.
Keeping it well
An important landmark in parotid surgery because the facial nerve runs just outside it.
