The main vein of the eye socket, starting at the inner corner of the eye and running back above the optic nerve.
What it does
Drains the eyeball and eye socket into the cavernous sinus through a gap at the back of the socket.
Keeping it well
It swells on scans when blood backs up from the cavernous sinus; a red bulging eye with a whooshing noise needs an urgent specialist.
