Seventh cervical vertebra
Vertebra prominens (C VII) · Sedmý krční obratel
Skeleton
Looks like
The lowest neck vertebra (C7), with a long spine you can feel as the bump at the base of the neck (vertebra prominens).
What it does
Links the neck to the chest spine and anchors neck ligaments and back muscles.
Keeping it well
Its spine is the landmark for counting vertebrae. An extra rib can grow from it and press on arm nerves or vessels (thoracic outlet).
