The large irregular bone of each side of the pelvis, fused from ilium, ischium and pubis, meeting in the hip socket.
What it does
Forms the hip socket, carries weight to the legs in standing and sitting and anchors many trunk and thigh muscles.
Keeping it well
The iliac crest is used to take bone marrow and bone grafts. Groin pain on walking after a fall may be a pelvic or hip fracture.
