Proximal part of jejunum
Pars proximalis jejuni · Počáteční část lačníku
Digestive system
Looks like
The first stretch of the jejunum, starting at the bend where the duodenum ends, high on the left of the belly.
What it does
Absorbs most sugars, protein building blocks, fats and water; its lining has tall, dense folds.
Keeping it well
Obstruction or twisting here causes early vomiting. Surgeons use the bend at its start (ligament of Treitz) as a key landmark.
