Back of neck
Regio cervicalis posterior (nucha) · Šíje
Skeleton
Looks like
The nape: the back of the neck from the base of the skull down to the shoulders, over the neck vertebrae and thick muscles.
What it does
Holds the head upright and moves it; carries the muscles and ligaments that stabilise the neck spine.
Keeping it well
Muscle strain and stiffness are very common. Neck stiffness with fever and headache, or after a big fall, needs urgent care.
