Left levator veli palatini
Musculus levator veli palatini sinister · Levý zdvihač měkkého patra
Muscles
Looks like
A round muscle running from the base of the skull and the ear tube down into the soft palate.
What it does
Lifts the soft palate to seal off the nose when swallowing and speaking.
Keeping it well
Poor seal lets food or air escape into the nose and makes speech nasal; common after cleft palate and treated by speech therapy or surgery.
