The upper jawbone, a paired bone forming the middle of the face: the upper tooth ridge, most of the hard palate and the floor of each eye socket.
What it does
Holds the upper teeth, shapes the cheek and nose side and contains the largest air sinus (maxillary sinus).
Keeping it well
Breaks in facial trauma (Le Fort fractures). Upper tooth roots sit next to the sinus, so tooth infections can spread to it and vice versa.
