A branch of the lower-lobe pulmonary artery for the inner part of the lung base, next to the heart.
What it does
Carries blood to the medial basal lung segment; on the left it usually shares a stem with the anterior basal artery.
Keeping it well
Segmental clots here are small but can still cause pleuritic chest pain; CT shows them.
