A branch of the popliteal artery curving round the outer side of the thigh bone just above the knee.
What it does
Supplies the outer knee and the kneecap region as part of the knee's arterial network.
Keeping it well
It is often cut when surgeons release the outer side of the kneecap; a source of bleeding after knee surgery.
