Muscles
Looks like
A thin sheet of muscle forming the floor of the mouth, stretched from one side of the jawbone to the other and back to the hyoid bone.
What it does
Raises the floor of the mouth and tongue in the first step of swallowing.
Keeping it well
Powered by a branch of the trigeminal nerve. A rapidly swelling, firm floor of the mouth with drooling (Ludwig's angina) is an emergency.
