Stylohyoid
Musculus stylohyoideus · Bodcojazylkový sval
Muscles
Looks like
A slender muscle from a thin spike of bone under the ear (styloid process) down to the hyoid bone, split by the digastric tendon.
What it does
Pulls the hyoid bone up and back during swallowing.
Keeping it well
Powered by the facial nerve. A long, calcified styloid ligament nearby can cause throat pain on swallowing (Eagle syndrome).
