A short strap muscle continuing up from the sternothyroid, from the thyroid cartilage to the hyoid bone.
What it does
Lowers the hyoid bone, or lifts the voice box toward it when the hyoid is held still.
Keeping it well
Powered by fibres from the first neck nerve that travel with the hypoglossal nerve. Rarely a problem alone.
