Gluteus maximus
Musculus gluteus maximus · Velký sval hýžďový
Muscles
Looks like
The largest muscle of the body, a thick quadrilateral forming the shape of the buttock.
What it does
Straightens the hip — climbing stairs, standing up and running — and keeps the trunk upright.
Keeping it well
Weakens with long sitting; squats, stairs and bridges keep it strong. It is the usual site for injections into muscle.
