Hard palate
Palatum durum · Tvrdé patro
Skeleton
Looks like
The bony front part of the roof of the mouth, covered by ridged lining.
What it does
Separates the mouth from the nose and gives the tongue a surface to push food against.
Keeping it well
A cleft palate from birth is repaired in infancy; a lump or sore on the palate not healing in three weeks needs examination.
