Articular capsule of knee joint
Capsula articularis articulationis genus · Kloubní pouzdro kolenního kloubu
Joints & cartilage
Looks like
A large, complex capsule around the knee, reinforced by the kneecap tendon at the front and ligaments at the sides and back.
What it does
Encloses the largest joint cavity in the body and its fluid, which feeds the cartilage.
Keeping it well
Fluid inside (knee effusion) follows injury or arthritis. A hot, very swollen knee with fever may be infected and needs urgent care.
