A flat muscle from the lower rim of the eye socket down into the upper lip.

What it does

Raises and pushes out the upper lip, showing the upper teeth.

Powered by the facial nerve. Its action returns slowly after Bell's palsy; facial exercises and eye protection help while it recovers.
