A small nerve from L4–S1 leaving the pelvis below the piriformis, deep to the sciatic nerve.
What it does
Moves quadratus femoris and inferior gemellus (hip outward rotators) and supplies the hip joint.
Keeping it well
Rarely injured alone; relevant in hip replacement through the back approach.
