Oblique popliteal ligament
Ligamentum popliteum obliquum · Šikmý podkolenní vaz
Joints & cartilage
Looks like
A broad band across the back of the knee capsule, an extension of the semimembranosus tendon running up and out.
What it does
Reinforces the back of the knee and stops it over-straightening.
Keeping it well
Mainly a landmark; the popliteal artery lies right behind it, which matters in knee surgery.
