A fan of fibres at the front of each rib-head joint, spreading from the rib head to the two vertebrae and the disc between them.
What it does
Binds the rib head to the spine while allowing its small gliding movements in breathing.
Keeping it well
Can be stiffened by ankylosing spondylitis, which limits chest expansion.
