Posterior abdominal wall
Paries abdominalis posterior · Zadní břišní stěna
Skeleton
Looks like
The back wall of the belly: lumbar spine, the lower ribs, the psoas and quadratus muscles and the diaphragm's lower part.
What it does
Supports the kidneys, aorta and large veins that lie against it and anchors the hip-bending muscles.
Keeping it well
Pain from kidneys, pancreas or an aortic aneurysm can be felt here as back pain; sudden severe pain with collapse is an emergency.
