Distal part of ileum
Pars terminalis ilei · Koncová část kyčelníku
Digestive system
Looks like
The terminal ileum: the last 20–30 cm of small intestine, in the lower right belly, ending at the large bowel.
What it does
Absorbs vitamin B12 and bile salts, which no other part can do.
Keeping it well
The most common site of Crohn disease. Removal or disease here causes B12 deficiency and diarrhoea from unabsorbed bile.
